A year older a year wiser, that’s what they say. Welcome to Matthew Comer 4.0!
For my birthday, I picked up a keg of Shiner Bock and headed out to our new custom home being built at 10709 Valley Vista Road Austin, TX 78737 to see how the shower tiling was going, gave the guys some draft beer to keep them going. Then Jenny, GMAC, Grace and I headed to one of my favorite swimming holes, Camp Ben McCulloch where Onion Creek has been flowing great all Summer, due to the recent Texas floods. My Dad got me a Plow Disc for my birthday, to cook the way cowboys cook. We grilled up several pounds of chicken and beef fajitas. Many friends and family came out to celebrate this day with me. We sat in the river together and swam around until dusk. What a great day, thank you to all!
This website, matthewcomer.com is getting old, too, 12 years old that is! It has been redesigned several times and updated to WordPress years ago. Like the saying goes these days, “It is what it is…”

Please come and remember our dear friend Amy and celebrate her life.
This will be a small Memorial planned as Amy had wished. Short and sweet. Songs of life. And any stories that you wish to share.
The memorial will be located in an Austin backyard, just before the evening. Giving travelers the ability to take in a lunch, then depart for dinner, or make ways back home.
We would like people to stay as long as they wish afterwards and catch up with old friends and remember.
Amy’s Friends
Please RSVP, if you are able to attend at evite.com.
Amy’s Celebration of her life was carried out just as she wished.
I am thankful to have known Amy. And thankful for all of those who attended to celebrate her memory. And thank you to all of her many many other friends who either did not attend or I failed to contact in time to give enough notice of the event. Thank you to Bridgett, you did what nobody else did or would do; because of you, we were able to honor Amy’s last wishes. Thank you to my wife Jenny for all that she did to make this happen at our home. Thank you to Jason for all of his help and all of the beautiful flowers. Thank you Sister Sophie for writing and sending the Eulogy in your place. Thank you Jalana and Madi for doing their part in the event and all of the kind words that they shared for their friend.
Amy’s son, Athen, graduates from high school in a little over a month and could surely use anything that anybody could give.

Five years ago today, a good friend passed away unexpectedly. I hadn’t seen her in several months. She had a condition that was deteriorating her ability to make new memories. The last time I saw her, she told me that “someday I would understand and it would all make sense”.
How could a beautiful young strong and determined woman with an enduring professional career and mother to a college bound athlete Senior in High School.
Emotions ran high. And there was a hurt feelings, feelings as if people didn’t do enough, and between friends and other friends and family over her support over the past few years, or rather lack thereof.
One of her close friends took care of the arrangements. And my wife and I held a Memorial of Life a couple weeks afterwards in our backyard. It was a touching outdoor service and many of her friends and family spoke. Myself included, please see the show notes for the words that I spoke in honor of my friend and for additional details about her life.
Such close friends, in fact, that my would be wife and her became really close friends. She even was my wife’s closest help during our wedding. And my wife and I attended her second wedding ceremony several years after our own. She leaves a strong young son behind, whom just graduated college a few months ago. He is a real good young man with a bright future and would make his loving mother so proud. She had been a single mother who gave so much of her life for him.
Many songs were played today in remembrance of my friend. These songs are special to me and mean a lot. I hope you enjoyed them as much as we did. And there were many other songs that we just didn’t have time to play here. Please see the show notes for a playlist containing this additional music.

A friend and I volunteered again this year to and helped out with Philip H. Anselmo’s and Corey Mitchell’s Housecore Horror Film Festival (HHFF) Part II held in Austin again this year. It was another great experience as I was in the Lead position in charge of other volunteers. Working as Head of Security for the outdoor Midway Stage at Midway Field House – Sports Bar & Arcade. We were all dedicated to make this an even bigger success than last year, so that we can continue to keep this event in Austin. Phil reassured us that the event will go on again, as well as in Austin. This year celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, locally made cult film. Taking place on the weekend before Halloween, people came out from all over the world to attend the event, melding music and film together perfectly.
Sadly, Corey Mitchell, the Co-Founder of the Festival passed away of a heart attack during load out at Emo’s, only hours following the conclusion of the festival. Our hearts and prayers go out to Corey and his family. Read more.
