Now, that you have a domain name, a web host, and the nameservers set, you can begin.
The following assumes that you are setting up a WordPress site with CPanel enabled hosting on a Linux server. If you need hosting, syphonsoft provides this type of hosting.
This guide can still be useful to others that are setting up non-Wordpress/CPanel/Linux sites, but you will have to know what to skip and what to leave in of the following.
Just follow these instructions
First, go into your sites, Cpanel console, http://yoursite.com/cpanel, authenticate, login, OK.
Set up mail, Mail, Email Accounts, create new email address you@yoursite.com, password, password (again), Mailbox quota – select unlimited checkbox, Create Account.
Home, Mail, SpamAssassin™, Enable SpamAssassin, Enable Spam Box
Home, Software / Services, Fantastico De Luxe
WordPress, New Installation,
Go to your website and log in to WordPress, http://yoursite.com/wp-admin, use the username and password that you specified
Set up your User profile, OK.
I’ll leave the Editor or IDE of your choice up to you. There are too many good and bad ones out there for me to put in my two cents.
Download or open PuTTY a free SSH Client, login to
http://yoursite.com
FTP to http://yoursite.com using your FTP Client of choice. Mine favorite FTP Client is a feature of the Total Commander is shareware, please purchase a license if you find useful.
Thesis or other theme. It is strongly encouraged that you purchase Thesis from an affiliate and use this as you default customizable WordPress theme.
Rename custom-example directory to custom
Plugins, download and install the following plugins and optional and/or other plugins from the thousands that are available for free on the WordPress plugins site:

- contact-form-7-widget (optional)
- google-analytics-for-wordpress (optional)

(This would be the same as manually creating the following from www.xml-sitemaps.com.) - lightbox-2 (optional)
- maintenance-mode (optional)
- smart-404 (optional)
- stats
- thesis-settings-export
- thesis-openhook
- widget-logic
- wp-super-cache (optional, as it can get in the way if not configured correctly)
